The Bird Dog Breeder's Incentive Fund is patterned after a typical Futurity and is an Invitational stake designed to reward those individuals who have supported and invested in the offspring of the foundation sires from Honky Tonk Kennels. The Bird Dog Breeders Incentive Fund was established by Scott Miller, Stan Wint and George Gage to promote the breeders and sires of offspring of the kennel. It's first Puppy stake will run in the spring of 2007 and be a 30-minute stake with awards to four places. The inaugural stake would feature a $10,000 prize - $5,000 to be divided amongst the winners and $5,000 to be divided amongst the breeders of the winners of this stake. In 2008, a one-hour Derby Stake will be added to the format. The incentive fund will also provide added money to all recognized championship events ($500 to the owner and $250 to the breeder of the champion).
Mr. Miller, Mr. Wint and Mr. Gage cannot participate in the stake as competitors and three independent judges will be utilized to select the winning contestants. Following completion of the Puppy stake, there will be an open sale of dogs involved in the stake and a production sale of the kennel and outside breeders. The Puppy stake will consist of a 30-minute stake and will be held April 11-14, 2007, at Grovesprings, MO. The puppies will be judged on style, intelligence, ability to use the wind, having ability and desire to run. Contestants in the initial Puppy stake must be born on or after January 1, 2006, Handlers may walk or ride. All litters from the aforementioned sires are automatically enrolled. A $75 entry fee is due 45 days prior to the event. This date will be advertised in The American Field and strictly enforced. An entry must be registered and the winners will be requested to submit a DNA sample for verification prior to the payment of the winnings.
